Sightseeing Options in Irkutsk (included into tour price)
Sightseeing tour of Irkutsk upon arrival is included into every tour. Most of the trains arrive early in the morning, and you will have an opportunity to see the city instead of paying for early check-in. Additional activities are available at the Lake Baikal:
(A) TALTSY, BAIKAL MUSEUM AND CHERSKY PEAK - In the morning your guide takes you to the village of Listvyanka located on the shore of the Lake Baikal. On the way you will visit the Taltsy and Baikal Museums.
Founded in 1969, the Taltsy museum boasts a 67-hectare territory is surrounded with a protected area. There are over 40 monuments of architectural heritage and 8,000 exhibits of high historical value. Two architectural-ethnographical areas - Russian and Buryat - show a large variety of housing and life of the Siberians.
The Baikal Museum Complex houses a vast collection of exhibits, illustrations, and scientific information concerning Lake Baikal (the largest fresh water lake in the world) and the surrounding region made and collected by Baikal experts. Some items of interest are the fantastic animals that live only in the waters of the "sacred sea" (the local name of Baikal), the interesting world of insects, numerous examples of fauna, and the history of Lake Baikal.
Chersky Peak (2085m high) ascent is an unforgettable life experience. You are sure to enjoy the charming nature of Baikal region - deep forests, high mountains, wonderful lakes and incredible waterfalls.
(B) TREKKING THROUGH SIBERIAN TAIGA - after your train arrives, we transfer you to Listvyanka and accommodate in a nice Siberian izba for one night. In the morning go trekking through the stunning taiga - forest of the surrounding Primorsky Mountain to nearby bay on the shores of Lake Baikal. Overnight is in a camp (tent). All meals, guide and instructor services are included into the program. Next day we trek back to Listvyanka, having a lunch stop en-route and return to Irkutsk. Your city tour happens the next day before your departure for the next destination.
(C) PADI DISCOVER SCUBA DIVING IN BAIKAL LAKE - Never tried Scuba Diving but want to see what is it like?
Want to see the other side of the greatest Lake in the world? The PADI Discover Scuba Diving program lets you experience the thrill of diving under the supervision of a professional PADI Instructor in pool-like conditions. When you participate in this program, you discover excitement and adventure – freedom and serenity. Nothing compares to the "weightless" exhilaration of breathing underwater. Only a diver knows the feeling! During your adventure, you'll master some basic concepts and scuba skills and head off to experience an open water adventure. This program is not a scuba diving course. It is a way to try diving and see the wonders of underwater Baikal! At the end of this adventure you get the Discover Scuba Diver wall certificate (not certification card).
(D) ICE WONDERLAND - We invite you to come and experience the Siberian winter and go for a walk on the transparent ice of Baikal. Feel adventurous – tackle Russia in winter! This is the time to see snow tops of high Baikal Lake mountain ranges, furry green pines in snow and blue waters of the Angara River that never freezes over! The one who visits us is ever charmed by the eternal beauty of pristine nature and always gets back! Come to us and enjoying cozy hotel, fine cuisine and hot Russian steam house. To your surprise, you will find that the climate is one of the things that you may like - the never-ending sunshine and snow would be a welcome change from the wet and windy winters in North Europe. (E) SKIING AND TROIKA RIDING - Transfer to Listvyanka and guided cross-country skiing for 3 hours in the Taiga forest or on the frozen expanse of Lake Baikal. Here the white snow crisps under feet, the mountains covered with the taiga forest look dark at the horizon; and far away, on the opposite shore of Baikal, the snow - covered mountain picks shine brightly in the sun. We invite you to come and experience the Siberian winter, walk on the transparent ice of Baikal, enjoy your winter vacations at Baikal. Enjoy the Siberian cuisine and Russian banya and have a rest at a cozy Siberian home. The next day we return to Irkutsk, visiting Taltsy museum on the way and taking a Troika riding tour at the Sibirskaya Zaimka camp.
